The Hollyoak Lab

As we said earlier in the tour, the 'Art' of veterinary science is a combination of observation, questions to the owner about the animals
medical history, and especially, a good set of experienced 'vet' hands.
A careful examination lets the vet
'read' your pet's physical condition and often leads to a preliminary diagnosis.

Science in 9 minutes!

Now comes the science.  The Hollyoak laboratory.  This is where the vet's tentative diagnosis is backed up with facts using a wide variety of very specialised equipment.  One of Paula Dean's goals in setting up Hollyoak veterinary surgery was to invest in the most reliable and accurate lab equipment available. "Accurate testing is at the heart of good diagnosis
and effective treatment for your pet" says Paula. Virtually all of our equipment is specifically designed for animal use, rather than being NHS cast-offs from the second hand 'human' marketplace.

KEEPING COSTS DOWN

Another very important factor was the cost to run each test.  Our lab equipment was chosen to keep the costs as low as possible -
savings which are passed to our clients.

STATE-OF-THE-ART

Our state-of-the-art  blood chemistry analyser is the   first one in the UK!  It gives us accurate results in only 9 minutes - a vitally important diagnostic tool in any emergency when seconds count!

We are very proud of our lab, and as we conduct our tour you will see that years of thought and experience have gone into it's design.  Even though the Hollyoak lab already far exceeds what you would normally expect, we will expand it even further in the coming months and years.

The 'LAB TOUR'

Rather than just show you a few photos of our lab, and tell you that we have 'our own in-house lab', we thought you might be interested in a bit more detail.  We want to explain what each piece of equipment does and how they all work together to provide the very best in diagnostics and treatment for your pet.

Each instrument was selected not only for it's quick and accurate results, but also because it is extremely 'automatic' and easy to use - thus eliminating the chance of operator error that could skew results.

To read more about these instruments, simple click on the photos in the right hand column. (If you hold your mouse over each picture, you will get a brief description of what it is.)

A WORD ABOUT OUR  BLOOD ANALYSERS!

If you're a bit squeamish and if you've been to an NHS hospital yourself, you probably cringe at the thought of your pet being drained of its blood.  Don't worry!  Our state-of-the-art veterinary equipment works on a few drops of blood - not vials as is often the case in human medicine.   In fact, one of our analysers uses so little blood that you can easily test small birds with it!

Taking blood from your pet is very quick and our team is so skilled that your pet will think it's just getting a special 'fuss'.  So please don't worry.

If you have any concerns, please tell us!
