Unlike most
of the other animals in Paula's house, Badger is not strictly
a rescue. But, his mum was. Paula's friends had just rescued a
border collie from the Welsh hills, Reportedly she was no good
as a sheep dog. Some five weeks after they got her, on a Good
Friday, these friends placed an urgent 'help' call to Paula.
Their new family member was having puppies!
Badger was one of six in the litter and
Sarah, Paula's daughter, selected him as her special
friend.
A bright puppy, he started
playing fetch at three weeks of age. It was made more
difficult for him when Pepsi, Paula's King Charles spaniel
insisted on hanging onto Badger's ear while he was trying to
fetch. And, he's been obsessed with 'toys' ever since.
Nothing can distract him from his mission to retreive it! (
which sometimes had adverse consequences - read the section on
'Honey'
, Paula's
whippet puppy.)
Badger integrated well with the
family and the other animals in the household, but did go
through a period in adolesence when the thought he should be
dominant. That didn't last long since everyone in the family,
including the toddler, put him right!
