VetScan2 Blood Chemistry
Analyser:
The 'workhorse' of the analysers is the
Abaxis VetScan2, our blood chemistry unit. With it, we can measure
and monitor a wide number of blood parameters to give us a
host of information about the functioning of your pet's
internal organs. We use it for 'pre-aenesthetic'
screening which lets us determine if your pet can safely
undergo an operation. It also shows us
various chemical and protein levels which may be an
indication of kidney or liver disease, diabetes,
pancreatitis, or thyroid problems. We can run a special
'geriatric' screening to determine the overall health of
older animals. And, we can use it on healthy animals
to pick up problems that may affect it later in life.
Despite it's small size, this is the state-of-the-art
in veterinary medicine.
Hollyoak took delivery of the very
first one in the UK! It's fast and accurate.
In as
little as 9 minutes, we can get the information needed to
help the vet decide on a course of treatment. In
emergency situations where every second counts, these fast
baseline results are crucial for the making of life saving
decisions.
The added bonus is that this
analyser uses very little blood
- only about 8 drops - to give accurate
and repeatable results.
Less blood means less stress on your
pet - that's one reason
why we chose the vetscan 2.
The vetscan 2 also does tests less expensively than
sending it to an outside lab. Those saving are
passed on to our clients!
And, it will also 'talk' to our
computer system which holds all of our patient
records.
